
K.J. George Visits Thumbay Medicity, Hails Gulf Medical Universit
AJMAN, UAE, September 16, 2026: Karnataka Cabinet Minister for Energy and Tourism, K.J. George, visited Thumbay Medicity in Ajman, UAE, during an official visit aimed at strengthening ties between Karnataka and the UAE in the fields of healthcare, medical education and tourism.
The Minister was received by Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the senior leadership of Thumbay Group at its flagship healthcare and academic campus.
During the visit, Shri George toured key facilities at Thumbay Medicity, including Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital and Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital. He reviewed the medical education, clinical care, research and healthcare infrastructure developed by Thumbay Group over the past two decades.
The Minister also interacted with faculty members, students and healthcare professionals at the campus. A significant number of students and healthcare professionals associated with the institution are from India, including Karnataka.
Gulf Medical University, a key institution within the Thumbay Group ecosystem, attracts students from more than 111 nationalities and has produced healthcare professionals serving in different parts of the world. The institution has also become an important destination for students from Karnataka and other parts of India seeking medical education in the UAE.
Speaking during the visit, Shri K.J. George appreciated the scale and development of Thumbay Medicity and the contribution of Gulf Medical University to global medical education.

The visit also highlighted potential opportunities for greater cooperation between Karnataka and Thumbay Group in healthcare, education and tourism, particularly in view of the strong presence of the Indian community in the UAE.
Thumbay Group has built an integrated healthcare and education ecosystem in the UAE comprising Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital, Thumbay Labs, clinics, diagnostic centres and other academic and healthcare institutions across the GCC.
The visit of the Karnataka Minister is expected to provide further impetus to opportunities for collaboration between Karnataka and the UAE in these sectors.
