Mangaluru:The historic annual festival at Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple has officially begun with grand traditional rituals. The temple, one of the most revered spiritual centers near Mangaluru, is known for its month-long Jatre celebrations that attract thousands of devotees from across the region.

As per tradition, the sacred Bhandara (holy belongings) of Sri Bhagavathi, Sri Bhadrakali and Arasu Daivas were ceremonially transported across the Phalguni River by boat from Nandya to Polali.

The divine procession and the boat journey created a mesmerizing spiritual atmosphere witnessed by devotees.The annual Polali Jatre commenced with the ceremonial flag hoisting on March 14.

Traditional rituals such as Kudi Kareyuva ceremony were also performed. The festival will continue for 29 days, making it one of the longest temple festivals in South India. Key events include Prathama Chendu on April 6, Kade Chendu on April 10, and the grand Brahmarathotsava on April 11.

 

 

The month-long celebration reflects the rich cultural and devotional traditions of coastal Karnataka and the deep faith devotees have in the goddess Rajarajeshwari.
